Individual Highlights

photo: Eric Rivera and Rey MonzonEric Rivera, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs (left), and Reynaldo Monzon, director of Student Testing, Assessment and Research (right), submitted for a presentation and paper in late spring 2009 to the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). Titled “Effective Parent-University Partnerships: A Strategic Approach to College Student Success,” the proposal was chosen from among the more than 1,000 submitted to ASHE. They will present their paper during the 2009/2010 academic year.

Rivera, along with Susan Shuckett of Student Rights and Responsibilities, and James Lange, Alcohol and Other Drugs, provided a scholarly presentation on the existing literature on drug use and dealing, and the systemic foundations and effects of the “Sudden Fall” law enforcement intervention from the previous year.

photo: James TarboxJames Tarbox was elected “President Elect” to the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers. He was appointed by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) as President to the Conference Planning Committee for the NACE National Conference. He also conducted several television, print and online interviews on the economy and local job market, and a book review for NACE Journal.

photo: James LangeJames Lange, is the California State Coordinator for The Network Addressing Collegiate Alcohol and Other Drug Issues. He submitted and published papers in several journals, including the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, Addictive Behavior, and Drug and Alcohol Dependence. He presented at several conferences, including the Society for Prevention Research, the American Public Health Association, and the 35th Annual Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium of the Kettil Bruun Society in Denmark.

photo: Mary ShojaiMary Shojai served on the CSU Director’s Council for Services to Students with Disabilities. She also continued as Legislative Co-chair for the California Association on Postsecondary Education and Disability (CAPED). Shojai serves as the Directors’ representative on the CSU’s Chancellor’s Office Task Force on Captioning, and is a member of the Accessible Technology Initiative.
