Moving Forward

photo of Vice President KitchenThe 2005-2006 academic year for the Division of Student Affairs was a year of movement in many ways. Movement in the sense of progress: we continued to grow our programs and services to better serve more students. Movement in the sense of going forward: year two of our strategic planning process helped to guide us toward the future. And movement in the sense of relocating: with the opening of the new Calpulli Center, more than half the departments within our division moved into new locations.

Movement is the overriding theme of the outcomes we strive for in all our programs and services - growth, wise choices, connections and success. The role of Student Affairs is to help students to learn and to grow; to help students make positive choices; to help students to connect to the university to enhance retention and loyalty beyond graduation; and to provide opportunities for students to succeed.

Learning happens everywhere - in classes, outside of the classroom, in the community, and beyond. Learning, like movement, is fluid. Students develop skills to become successful in their academic pursuits, to achieve their career goals, and to become productive members of the global community by achieving a core set of learning outcomes.

As we move forward, the Division of Student Affairs will continue to revise our strategic planning process to be the best student-centered partner in the educational process of the SDSU learning community.
