AMERICAN INSTITUTIONS

CALIFORNIA GOVERNMENT EXAM

The American Institutions graduation requirement may be satisfied by completion of certain courses or a combination of courses and the California Government examination. See the current General Catalog for details. The dates on which the California Government examination will be given are as follows. Students must register for the exam by the deadline date.


JOURNALISM (School of Journalism & Media Studies)

GRAMMAR, SPELLING AND PUNCTUATION (GSP) TEST

This test is required for admission to the Advertising, Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations majors in the School of Journalism & Media Studies. Students are allowed three attempts to pass the Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation (GSP) test.

 

FOREIGN LANGUAGE TESTS

FRENCH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST

The French proficiency examinations are taken (1) as a challenge exam to satisfy the Foreign Language Graduation Requirement for liberal arts and science majors, (2) to waive specific 200-level French courses which are prerequisites for more advanced classes or (3) to waive French 301 and/or French 302. GERMAN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST

The German proficiency examinations are taken (1) as a challenge exam to satisfy the Foreign Language Graduation Requirement for liberal arts and science majors and/or (2) to waive 100 and 200-level German courses which are prerequisites for more advanced classes. ITALIAN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST

The Italian proficiency examinations are taken (1) as a challenge exam to satisfy the Foreign Language Graduation Requirement for liberal arts and science majors and/or (2) to waive 200-level Italian courses which are prerequisites for more advanced classes. JAPANESE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST

The Japanese language proficiency test is taken to assess the proficiency level and to place students at the most appropriate level in the curriculum of the Japanese language program at San Diego State University. Students who have special backgrounds, and those SDSU students who took Japanese elsewhere, including SDSU students who participated in exchange programs, are required to take this examination. For more information, please contact the Japanese language adviser in the Department of Linguistics and Asian/Middle Eastern Languages.


RUSSIAN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST
The Russian proficiency examinations are taken (1) as a challenge exam to satisfy the Foreign Language Graduation Requirement for liberal arts and science majors and/or (2) to waive 200-level Russian courses which are prerequisites for more advanced classes. SPANISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST

The Spanish proficiency examination is taken to satisfy the foreign language requirement for Liberal Arts and Science Majors. Contact the Spanish Department for more information. The Spanish Language Proficiency Test is not appropriate or available to students attending other colleges or universities or individuals seeking bilingual certification for employment or other purposes. Scores from this test will only be released to SDSU students seeking to satisfy the language requirement on this campus.
