The German Language Proficiency Test is taken for two purposes: 1) As a challenging exam to satisfy foreign language requirements for Liberal Arts and Science Majors and/or 2) to waive 100 and 200 level German courses which are prerequisites for more advanced classes.
Who Needs to Take the German Language Proficiency Test?
Any Liberal Arts and Sciences major that wishes to attempt to satisfy their foreign language requirement with a German test. Also, any student wishing to attempt to waive 100 and 200 level German courses in order to take more advanced courses.
According to the SDSU General Catalog, some language requirements may also be satisfied through Advanced Placement (AP) credit, College Level Examination (CLEP) credit, and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) credit.
