Jurisdiction of Judicial Procedures

picture of scales of justiceAs a student, you are expected to abide by Standards for Student Conduct. As a Greek student, you are responsible for abiding by an extra set of policies set forth in the Student Organization Handbook.

The Standards for Student Conduct can be found on the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities website as well as your General Course Catalog. The Student Organization Handbook can be found on the Student Activities and Campus Life Web site.

Whether or not you choose to read these policies, you are responsible for following them. Violations of the above policies will result in university disciplinary action
University disciplinary action may run concurrently with civil or criminal action, student organization disciplinary procedures, and/or the residence hall eviction process
You may face several sets of sanctions for violating the Standards for Student Conduct.

Campus related violations include academic and non-academic misconduct which may occur on the university campus including:

  • Residence halls
  • Classrooms
  • Greek housing such as Faternity Row or individual houses
  • Off-campus community such as apartments,
    Off-campus student organization-sponsored events such as a sorority formal at a hotel
  • Campus events regardless of location
  • Online sites
  • Violations of the polices included in the Student Organization Handbook are violations of the Standards for Student Conduct.

Disciplinary Sanctions and Educational Stipulations

picture of a gavelThe university recognizes that students will sometimes make choices that are not in the best interest of the student nor the university community. The disciplinary process is designed to help students make wise choices, reflect on the ramifications of their actions, and understand the importance of personal accountability while educating students for the future. When a student is found responsible for a violation of the Student Code of Conduct, he or she will may receive the following sanctions and stipulations:

  • Probation
  • Suspension
  • Expulsion
  • Counseling Interventions
  • Alcohol and Other Drug Programs
  • Research Papers
  • Reflection Essays
  • Community Service
  • Restitution
  • Cancellation of Campus Housing


Question: If I allow underage people to drink alcoholic beverages in my off-campus apartment, I can be referred to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities for violation of the SDSU Student Code of Conduct.
