Parent Orientation (August 2017)

A family arrives for orientation.Parent involvement plays a key role in the academic success of students during their college years. For this reason, SDSU sponsors a Parent Orientation Program that runs concurrently with the student program.

Research shows that students who bring parents to orientation are more likely to earn a higher grade point average and persist in school.

Here’s why Parents must attend:

  • Contribute to the personal development and academic success of your student
  • Meet faculty, staff, and students and learn about academic programs and student support services
  • Become a member of the Aztec Parents Association (APA). This one-time fee includes the APA membership for as long as your student is enrolled at SDSU
  • Learn what it means to be a member of the SDSU community
  • Learn about your student's academic program and how campus works (policies and procedures)

Among parents who completed a program evaluation, 96% recommended attending Parent Orientation to future Aztec parents. Even if you have had another son or daughter in college and/or if you are a local parent, it is important to attend Parent Orientation to learn about SDSU’s programs and services, and how your student can successfully graduate in a timely fashion.

Sign up beginning May 11, 2017 at 10 am (PST).

All parent(s) and/or guest(s) planning to attend should be included in the student's registration.*

Do not make travel arrangements before you have made a reservation for New Student Orientation. If you and/or your student can travel to San Diego only once for any SDSU events, your student is expected to attend New Student Orientation.

*Guests under 15 years of age are not encouraged to attend. All guests are required to attend the Parent Orientation program.
