Freshman Orientation (July 2019)

All First-Time Freshmen are expected to attend New Student Orientation.

Here’s why you must attend:

  • Register for classes at orientation (if basic course registration fees are paid with no holds, transcripts have been received, and you attend the entire orientation program approximately 8 am - 6 pm)*
  • Understand General Education, major, and graduation requirements
  • Receive essential academic planning and course registration assistance
  • Receive a personalized academic information packet
  • Learn to use SDSU’s Web registration system and other WebPortal services
  • Meet in groups with Assistant Deans, faculty advisors, and trained student Ambassadors
  • Learn what it means to be a responsible member of the SDSU community

Space is limited for each orientation program (to allow students to make connections). Do not make travel arrangements before you have made a reservation for New Student Orientation. You can make your reservation online beginning on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10 am (PST).

Once in the registration system you will be able to choose from ONLY the dates still available for your major. If you can travel to San Diego only once for any SDSU events, please attend New Student Orientation in July.

  • New Student and Family Convocation
    Saturday, August 24, 2019
    A ceremony to officially welcome all new students and their families to the SDSU community. All new students are expected to attend and are encouraged to bring their parents and family members with them.

  • Welcome Week (for students only)
    Friday, August 23 – Saturday, August 31, 2019

    A series of programs and activities to welcome students to campus life.

*In order to register for classes, you MUST complete the following steps:

  1. Pay the full amount of your course registration fees two weeks prior to attending orientation in order to have your fees processed on time. If you pay online, your fees will be processed by the next business day. You MUST pay your fees on time or you will not be able to register for classes at orientation.
  2. You MUST clear any holds indicated on the "My Registration" page located in your SDSU WebPortal. It can take up to 48 hours to clear some holds. Please plan accordingly or you will not be able to register for classes at orientation.
  3. Submit Final transcripts. Includes final grades.
  4. Must attend the entire orientation program approximately from 8 am - 6 pm
