Diversity, The Face of America: Diversity Pathways to Student Success

The Conference will open with a special play entitled Jungle Bells. This one-man show is written and performed by Barry “Shabaka” Henley. Born in New Orleans, Henley has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including Ali, Grey’s Anatomy, the Showtime series Barbershop, NYPD Blue, Law & Order and the feature-film version of Miami Vice.

Recently appointed Commissioner of Arts and Cultural Affairs in Oakland, California, spoken word artist Ise Lyfe will be presenting at the conference. With more than ten years of experience on the international performance stage, Lyfe brings to the Diversity Conference more than his background as a performer but his background in education. As one of America’s premiere spoken word artists, he has shared the stage with artists such as Lauryn Hill, Martin Luther and Ben Harper.
